Short version: we are experienced fishkeepers, not veterinarians, and this site earns nothing
from the products it mentions. The detail is below.

General information only
Everything on Fishkeeping.io is published for general informational purposes. It reflects
broadly accepted good practice in the freshwater fishkeeping hobby and established aquarium
science. It is not professional advice tailored to your situation.
Your tank is not our tank. Water hardness, source water chemistry, stocking, equipment, tank
age and the species you keep all change the right answer. Test your own water and use your own
judgment.
Not veterinary advice
We are not aquatic veterinarians and nothing here is a diagnosis or a prescription. If a fish
is injured, visibly diseased, or not responding to improved water conditions, consult a
veterinarian who treats fish, or a qualified aquatic specialist who can examine the animal.
Be especially careful with medications. Many aquarium treatments harm invertebrates, damage
biological filtration, or interact badly with each other. Dosing several products at once is one
of the most common ways beginners lose a whole tank.
Livestock and equipment risk
Fishkeeping carries inherent risk. Livestock can die for reasons that have nothing to do with
the advice you followed. Aquariums combine water and electricity, and a large tank puts
significant load on floors and furniture. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for every piece
of equipment, use a residual current device where appropriate, and if you are unsure about
electrical installation or floor loading, get a qualified professional to check it.
Affiliate disclosure
This site does not use affiliate links. We earn no commission when you buy a product we mention,
we take no payment for a positive review, and we accept no free gear in exchange for coverage.
Product neutrality is the point: a recommendation here is not shaped by revenue. Where we think
the cheapest option is the right one, or that you do not need the product at all, we say so.
If we ever add affiliate links, we will state it plainly on this page and in our
privacy policy before any such link goes live.
Advertising disclosure
This site does not currently display advertising. We plan to add Google AdSense once the site
qualifies. When those ads go live we will update this page and the
privacy policy to describe them and the opt-out options before they
appear. Any ads will be selected by the ad network, not by us, and their presence is not an
endorsement.
External links
We link to manufacturers, retailers, databases and other blogs where they are genuinely
useful. We have no control over those sites and are not responsible for their content or
accuracy.
Errors and corrections
If you find a mistake, please tell us on the contact page. We would
rather correct a guide than defend it.
